LETHBRIDGE – Residents are encouraged to get out and explore druing the fifth annual Jane’s Walk festival.

Jane’s Walks, named after urbanist Jane Jacobs, encourage people to get out and walk about their neighbourhoods while learning about their city.

Perry Stein, a community organizer with the City of Lethbridge, said the goal of the festival is to unite neighbors with a sense of shared community.

“It’s a a festival every year to bring neighbours together to discover their city,” he said. “To learn about the stories and history of their city and to really create a sense of community in Lethbridge.”

The first Jane’s Walk began in Lethbridge in 2012 with one walk and has grown to 11 walks this year.

Stein said this year’s walks offer residents a variety of topics to discover about Lethbridge’s history and environment.

“Some focus on the history of neighbourhoods and some focus on downtown public art,” he said. “Others focus on our natural environment in the river valley.”

Times and locations for walks in the city can be found at the Jane’s Walk website janeswalk.org/canada/lethbridge or on Facebook at facebook.com/janeswalkLETH.
