Magrath teen overcomes disability thanks to new technology

LETHBRIDGE – A Magrath teenager with cerebral palsy now has the ability to better communicate with his family, thanks to Alberta Health Services

15-year old Jacob Wynder has been using eye gaze technology to help him articulate his requests to family and acquaintances.

Eye gaze works by using a camera to track where on the screen Jacob is looking, and then speaking a recorded message based on what he’s looking at.

His brother, 19 year old Nathan, says the technology has helped improve his relationship with his brother and wishes they had it sooner.

Previously, Jacob used a picture book to point at images, but it left him unable to go into detail about what he wanted to say.

Jacob hopes to be able to use this technology at school in the near future.
