New Dog Park Slated for Scenic Drive North

LETHBRIDGE – After sitting unused for a number of years, a portion of the northern end of Scenic Drive will finally be developed.

The land was originally slated for future urban development and commercial space. However, that zoning couldn’t be supported after all.

“There’s a former City of Lethbridge landfill, it was a little bit further west, but there’s quite a significant development setback,” noted Tyson Boylan, Senior Community Planner.

“It essentially renders any development within 300-meters to be pretty limited. As well, there’s quite a few power lines there, sewer lines and high pressure gas lines.”

Council agreed to change the zoning, so it can eventually be developed into a large, fenced dog park. Some features are yet to be determined, but it will be part of the city’s urban trail system.

Council also noted that the park will be most beneficial for residents who don’t have a vehicle to access parks down in the River Valley.
