Accessible Picnic Areas Lend New Tourism Options

Jul 2, 2016 | 8:24 AM

LETHBRIDGE – Everyone can now enjoy what the Old Man River Valley has to offer.

Six picnic areas in Indian Battle Park received some renovations recently to make them more universally accessible, with upgrades including:

– Hard surfaced sites that connect to existing paved paths

– Bright, contrasting colours for visual cues

– Wheelchair accessible picnic tables

– Fire pits with surrounding barrier curbs

Parks Manager, Dave Ellis, says this is a high priority for the City. He noted that it was also a great opportunity to partner up with Employment and Social Development Canada.

The project was made possible with funding from the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund, and the City of Lethbridge.
