Taber RCMP Rescue Man from Scope Reservoir

Jul 6, 2016 | 6:59 PM

TABER:  RCMP were called to Scope Reservoir, just south of Hays, around 10:50 Wednesday (June 6th) morning, in response to  a man yelling for help in the water.

Since the individual was too far from shore for citizens to help, the RCMP responded with a rescue boat, and were assisted by Vauxhall, Hays, and Taber Fire Departments.  The man was rescued and EMS provided medical treatment at the boat launch.

As a precaution, the man was transported to the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital by Halo (Helicopter Air Lift Operation) for further assessment and care.

The 65 year old man had been fishing by himself and had been in the water for a couple hours.

While it isn’t known why he was in the water, he was wearing a personal flotation device (PFD).   RCMP state the incident underscores the life-saving effectiveness of wearing a PFD when doing any water activities.
