County Listens to Business Concerns and Alters Effective Date for Levy
LETHBRIDGE COUNTY – After hearing from local sand and gravel companies, Lethbridge County Council agreed to a new effective date for its Community Aggregate Payment Levy.
Bylaw 1340 passed third reading on April 21st, to make those companies more responsible for road maintainence. It was determined by Council that it would be in the best interest of the County.
Now, quarterly reports from each individual pit must be reported within 45 days of receiving a levy notice on March 31, June 30, September 30 and December 31. Shipments are to be reported in tonnes, and the levy is calculated at 25-cents per tonne.
County Reeve Lorne Hickey says Monday’s decision was the best compromise.
