Royal View Neighbourhood Passes First Steps Toward Development
LETHBRIDGE – A 395-hectare section of land in north Lethbridge received a framework for its future development on Monday.
City Council approved the Royal View Area Structure Plan, which is slated to the north of the existing Legacy Ridge, Hardieville and Blackwolf areas. This is one of the beginning phases in the planning process that provides the City with information on infrastructure requirements, off-site levy demands, CIP expenditures and provides a basic level of detail for developers.
Councillor Ryan Parker says this area demonstrates the City of Lethbridge’s balanced approach to development, “People feel that the north side is ignored, and I would argue that fact. This really puts money where our mouth is. It’ll be a great compliment to our north side regional park, and it’s exciting times in our community.”
Royal View, which started planning in 2012, currently has space set aside for both an elementary and middle school, emergency services, residential and commercial lots and a number of public parks. One of those parks includes Pivot Park, located on an existing irrigation pivot, commemorating the impact irrigation has had on southern Alberta. Pathways between adjacent neighborhoods and open spaces will be built in, as well.
