Police Keeping Close Eye on Alberta Highways Over Long Weekend
ALBERTA – The provincial Integrated Traffic Unit has extra officers patrolling Alberta highways this weekend, to help make sure you make it home safely.
RCMP Sergeant Darrin Turnbull says the problem comes when you have a number of tourists who are unfamiliar with the area coupled with people who are rushing to take full advantage of the long weekend.
“When you’re involved in a collision, the faster you’re going the more serious the injuries are that are going to be involved,” Turnbull stated. “Give yourself a chance to survive these crashes and slow down, pay attention, wear your seat belt and make sure that you’re sober.”
Turnbull also discussed the importance of slowing down around highway maintenance or emergency vehicles stopped on the shoulder.
