UPDATE: Charges Pending in Collision of Stolen Vehicle

Aug 8, 2016 | 1:20 AM

LETHBRIDGE: Police have a woman in custody and are looking for a male suspect after a collision involving a stolen vehicle on Sunday evening.

Police say a black Chevrolet Equinox had been southbound on Highlands Blvd at a high rate of speed, when it struck the curb, entered the roundabout at Garry Drive and sheered off two signs. The vehicle collided with two large landscaping rocks and became high centered.

A man and woman who were in the vehicle fled from the area on foot. The subjects were followed by several witnesses and one took a cell phone video of the suspects leaving the area.

One bystander tried to stop the man, but he pulled out a collapsible baton to prevent him from being detained.

A Police K9 team found the woman hiding at a nearby park where she was arrested.

The investigation determined the vehicle had been stolen from Taber earlier the same week and was also identified as the same vehicle involved in a theft of gas from the Park Meadows 7-11 the night before where it also ran from police.

The male suspect is described as native, about 6 feet tall, medium build, wearing a red t-shirt, black pants, black converse shoes, and black hat on backwards.

If anyone can identify the photograph of the suspect, you’re asked to call the Lethbridge Police at 403-3247-2210 or Crimestoppers.

The woman who was arrested has not been formally charged, but she is set to make her first appearance in Lethbridge Provincial Court on Monday at 930AM.
