Police Issue Canada-Wide Arrest Warrant in Brooks Homicide Case

Aug 18, 2016 | 1:39 PM

BROOKS – RCMP have confirmed that human remains located on Thursday, April 28 by a local resident, are those of 45-year-old Mohamed Jama Abdi.

He was reported missing by a family member on July 23, 2015, when he failed to return to work after a vacation in the middle of the month.

Police conducted an investigation into the whereabouts of Abdi, but were not able to locate him. The case was then handed over the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit in Calgary when foul play was identified as a factor.

The case was designated as a homicide shortly after the suspicions were confirmed by evidence gathered by a comprehensive and thorough police investigation.

Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of 41-year-old Ali Abdullah Awale, formerly a resident of Brooks, for the murder of Mohamed Jama Abdi.

Those with any information regarding this case are urged to contact either the Brooks RCMP Detachment at 403-362-5535, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
