LETHBRIDGE – A trial date has been set for a 39-year old Lethbridge man charged with manslaughter, but it won’t happen until late next year.

James Gregory Gurney entered a plea of not guilty Monday morning (Aug 22), with the judge and jury trial set to run October 2-13, 2017.

On August 31, 2015, 47-year old Gifford George Good Dagger was found unconscious in the alley along the 900 block of 17 Street South. He was taken to the Chinook Regional Hospital with head and internal injuries, where he died the next day.

Following an investigation, Gurney was identified as a suspect and charged with manslaughter.

With more than a year to wait until his trial, Gurney is scheduled to return to provincial court on September 30 of this year for a bail hearing.
