Bail Hearing Set for Man Accused in Baby’s Death
LETHBRIDGE – A bail hearing will go ahead this week for a 40-year old man accused in the death of a nine month old baby boy.
Tyler Brian Hogan was arrested and charged with second degree murder in July, in connection with the April death of Austin Wright.
On April 28, 2016, Lethbridge EMS responded to a report of a baby in medical distress at a residence along the 600 block of 17 Street North. Upon arrival paramedics located Austin inside the home, not breathing and in cardiac arrest. He was transported to the Chinook Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation determined that Austin had been left in the care of his mother’s boyfriend, who was living in the residence at the time. The man initially reported to police that Austin had fallen and just stopped breathing, but an autopsy determined the little boy died as a result of blunt force trauma that was not consistent with a fall.
The bail hearing has been set for Wednesday (Aug. 31) in Court of Queen’s Bench.
A Justice from outside of Lethbridge will need to preside over the hearing, as it was revealed earlier this month that Hogan is related to a retired Lethbridge Provincial Court judge.
