Runaway Horse Rounded Up

Aug 29, 2016 | 4:18 PM

LETHBRIDGE – It’s not everyday that Lethbridge Police are called to round up a runaway horse.

Around 1:30 p.m., Police responded to a call of an injured horse that had run through a fence and made its way to the residential area of Gateway Mews South and 43rd Street South.

Braylon Hyggen, Acting Sergeant, reported that police were able to contain the horse and contact owners who were out of the country at the time.

“The horse was calm when we arrived, but with the few injuires and being cornered into a lot we weren’t sure how it would respond to people. Thankfully residents gave the animal its space until the vet arrived,” he said.

The horse has since been picked up by a vet who has worked with the owner.

Hyggens noted that there will be no charges and that this is a first for Lethbridge Police as the city livestock owners do a good job at keeping fences up to date.
