Standoff Man Arrested After Extorting Three Medicine Hat Teens
MEDICINE HAT – An investigation by the Southern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit has led to the arrest of a 19-year old Standoff man, who now faces several child pornography and extortion charges.
According to Medicine Hat Police, three teenage girls were contacted on Facebook over the last two months by someone using the name “Ted Mitchell”. He asked each for their Snapchat username.
When denied, the suspect would send a sexually explicit image of them that had previously been posted online. He also threatened to send the pictures to the victims’ friends and family, and further punish them if they did not comply.
On Thursday (September 15), a residential search warrant was executed on a rural property near Standoff, Alberta. Skylar Pantherbone was located and arrested without incident.
A number of electronic devices were located. Initial examination by forensic technicians found evidence implicating Pantherbone.
He now faces possession, accessing and distribution of child pornography and extortion charges, as well as two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
