Public Discussion on City Councillor’s Roles And Wage

Oct 2, 2016 | 10:13 AM

LETHBRIDGE – The public can have their say this week on whether or not City councilors should have full time status.

A Citizens’ Assembly Public Round Table will be held on Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Foyer.

Participants will learn about the work of Lethbridge City Councillors, consider their workload and appropriate compensation and provide input to the members of the citizen assembly.

In May of this year, City Council approved the creation of the first Citizens’ Assembly in Lethbridge. Lead by an independent consultant, this group was randomly selected to review Council’s employment status and compensation.

Through a series of information and education sessions the assembly will return to city council in Nov. with a recommendation on the appropriate hours of work and compensation for city councillors.
