More Federal Funding Helping Lethbridge Overcome Homelessness
LETHBRIDGE – Preventing and ultimately ending homelessness is the main vision of the “Bringing Lethbridge Home” plan, and new federal funding is backing that up.
The plan’s guiding principles were used to determine three organizations that will share in $248,169 over the next two years. On Monday, City council approved those specific allocations, listed above.
It comes as part of the federal Homelessness Partnering Strategy that funds communities across Canada to address local homeless needs and priorities.
The Social Housing in Action (SHIA) Committee and Community Leader’s Council made recommendations to City Council for the funding. Those include the YWCA Transition and Outreach and Residential Supports Program, HomeBASE Mobile Outreach Team and Demonstration Project.
“The organizations receiving this funding are well rooted in our community. We know they are positioned to used this additional funding in an effective and impactful way that is aligned with our overarching plan to end homelessness in Lethbridge,” noted Councillor Ryan Parker, who is a member of the SHIA Committee.
The goal is to support housing for women and children escaping violence, as well as targeted initiatives to better connect Indigenous people to their culture.
