A list of some designs by architect Bing Thom

Vancouver-based architect Bing Thom died Tuesday of a brain aneurysm while in Hong Kong. His buildings are known for their grace, swooping forms, play of light and touch of drama. Here’s a list of some of his many designs:

Xiqu Centre, Hong Kong — Pronounced See-Q, the centre is a modern home for Chinese opera. It is the first venue to open in Hong Kong’s new cultural precinct. The building with the dynamic facade and lighting is at the entrance to the new district. 

Simon Fraser University campus at Central City in Surrey, B.C. — The Central City complex rejuvenated the heart of Surrey with a large civic plaza, the first urban open space in the city. Timber, historically associated with B.C., is used in a contemporary way.

Tarrant County College, Fort Worth, Texas — The design of a new urban campus revived the largely neglected urban waterfront.
