Lethbridge’s Kris Versteeg signs with Calgary Flames

CALGARY – A Lethbridge native and former Hurricane has signed a one year contract with the Calgary Flames.

Kris Versteeg inked the deal, coming off a professional tryout with the Edmonton Oilers.

The deal for Versteeg – who played with the local WHL club for three seasons between 2002 and 2005 – is reportedly worth $950,000.

After being drafted by Boston in 2004, the 30-year old forward has played in 550 NHL games over nine seasons, amassing 313 points (131 goals and 182 assists) in the regular season and another 44 points (17 goals and 27 assists) in 89 playoff games. Over his career he’s played for Chicago, Toronto, Philadelphia, Florida, Carolina and Los Angeles.

He also won two Stanley Cups while playing with the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2009-10 and 2014-15 seasons.
