Snow moves on, leaving icy crust behind
LETHBRIDGE — A Thanksgiving weekend snowfall has moved on.
But as day turned to night Monday, what had been a slushy mess turned into an icy crust over the Lethbridge area. While crews were out treating streets and highways, many sidewalks and parking lots were slippery early Tuesday.
According to Environment Canada’s website, just over 14 mm of precipitation was recorded in Lethbridge on Monday Oct. 10. That would translate to 14 cm of snow, or nearly six inches.
Conditions had Lethbridge police warning drivers to be careful and allow extra time. Five vehicles were involved in a crash at 10:15 p.m. Monday on Highway 3 at the Oldman River bridge. Traffic was rerouted to Whoop-Up Drive for a short time, until the scene could be cleared up. Only minor injuries were reported.
