LETHBRIDGE –  The federal by-election for the Medicine Hat – Cardston – Warner riding is just a week and a half away (October 24th) and the Liberals are bringing in a reinforcement.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to pay a visit to Medicine Hat to show support for Liberal Candidate, Stan Sakamoto.

Trudeau will attend a meet and greet with party supporters on Thursday evening at the Beveridge Building.

“I know this area has been kind of a forgotten corner,” says Sakamoto. “I think with our Prime Minister coming, he can talk to our local people here.”

Sakamoto adds that it is an honour the Prime Minister is taking the time to visit here and it’s a great opportunity for the city.

“So our community has a voice to him directly,” he says. “We’ve got a lot of concerns here.”

The meet and greet is free but Liberal Party officials say an RSVP is required and can be obtained online at on Sakamoto’s website.

The by-election is to choose a successor to former Conservative MP Jim Hillyer, who died unexpectedly in Ottawa in March of this year.

While in the region, Trudeau will visit the Blood Tribe Reserve on Friday.  The Prime Minister is expected to visit with band members from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
