LETHBRIDGE – The Vancouver Giants out-shot the Hurricanes 31 to 28 and went on to win 4-3 in overtime at the Enmax on Friday night.

The Canes were first on the scoreboard almost 12 minutes into the first, on a shot from Jesse Zaharichuk, assisted by Giorgio Estephan and Brayden Burke.

The Giants’ Tyler Benson replied two minutes later but, Ryley Lindgren put the Canes ahead 2-1 on a power play before the end of the period.

In the opening minute of the second frame Tyler Benson slid one through the pipes for Vancouver to tie up the game. It took 13 minutes of play before Brayden Burke answered for the Canes, again putting his team ahead.

The third period saw the Giants tie the game on a power play at the seven minute mark and hold the score at three apiece until the end of regulation.

Vancouver’s Tyler Benson then took advantage of a power play 39-seconds into overtime to knock in the game winner and rack up a hat trick.

The Hurricanes tallied 10-minutes in penalties while the Giants racked up 15 minutes including a second period five minute major for head checking by Johnny Wesley, who was also handed a game misconduct.

The Canes picked up a point for the overtime loss and are now at 5-2-1-1 and host Regina on Saturday (Oct 15) night.
