Angels masquerade as ghouls and goofs for fun and generosity

LETHBRIDGE –  A group of Lethbridge residents got into the Christmas giving spirit early this year.  They started on Halloween.

Sherry and Darryl Kenna held a Ghoulish Gong show on Saturday (Oct 29th).   They corralled about 50 of their friends and family at an appropriately decorated venue.  Entry to the event was an unwrapped toy, which would be donated to the local Salvation Army, as it prepares for the annual Christmas Hamper drive.

When it came to costumes, the group outdid themselves in the creative department (as noted in the photos, supplied by Sherry).  They also did not skimp on generosity.

On Wednesday, Sherry arrived at the studios of LethbridgeNewsNow.com, Country-95 and B-93 with a van loaded with seven large bags of brand new toys and others that wouldn’t fit into the bags.

Given the state of the economy this year, the need for food and toy donations will be greater than ever.  The local food banks and the Salvation Army expect to deal with 2,200 households, which include many children. To add to the burden, a flooded basement at the Salvation Army earlier in the year destroyed most of the toys that were already being stored.

Deborah Bakker, family services director with the Salvation Army, said they’re looking for a wide range of toys and items, not just for young children but through the teen years as well.

“We are going to look for Fisher-Price toys, Paw Patrol, DreamWorks Trolls, Nerf, Star Wars, Pokemon, Lego, gift cards, toiletries, hair stuff, books, games, craft items, skateboards, (and) basketballs,” she said.

Thank You to the Kenna’s and their many friends and family.

The group may have been wearing ghoulish and/or goofy costumes but, they were masking halos and angel wings.
