LETHBRIDGE – With demand greater than usual, and Christmas coming up, the Lethbridge Food Bank says a provincial grant will really help.

Lethbridge West MLA Shannon Phillips presented a $50,000 Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) grant to the food bank Friday, Nov. 4. Executive director, Maral Kiani Tari, explained the money will help improve the food bank’s productivity as it heads into a busier than usual Christmas season. The combined Christmas hamper campaign is planning for an additional 500 households.

“This has given us the ability to actually serve them efficiently, and better, and have more stock, for sure,” she said. Monthly usage is up by approximately 100 clients per month.

“It reflects the good work that they do here in serving the community and we’re pleased to support the community however we can,” Phillips said.

The improvements include a new computer system for tracking inventory, a reorganized warehouse with more storage and more coolers, space to distribute six hampers at a time instead of two, and a private room for registering clients.
