Taber parent says support needed following Abbotsford stabbing
VANCOUVER – The mother of an Alberta teen who was killed at school says students returning Monday to a British Columbia school after a Grade 9 girl was stabbed to death will need ongoing support to ensure their lives aren’t affected for years.
Diane Lang, whose 17-year-old son Jason Lang was shot to death in Taber in 1999, says the best thing educators and parents of students at Abbotsford Senior Secondary can do is listen to the youth and help them get back to their normal routines.
Fourteen-year-old Letisha Reimer was fatally stabbed Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the school in Abbotsford while her friend was injured by an assailant who didn’t know them.
Lang says when her son’s school reopened she and her husband stood at the spot near the cafeteria where he was killed to talk to students and help them deal with their grief.
