MEDICINE HAT – Two men are in custody following Medicine Hat’s second homicide of the year.

Police were called to a disturbance and injury of a male in the 500 block of 21 St. NE in the early hours Saturday, Nov. 5. Emergency crews performed first aid on a 24 year old man who was then taken to Medicine Hat Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to police a 21 year old man was arrested on scene for murder. A second 21 year old man was located early afternoon after police put out a request for assistance from the public.

Both men are now in custody in relation to the homicide. Medicine Hat Police say they believe it was a targeted attack.

“We don’t think this was random,” said Inspector Brent Secondiak. “We know there was a disturbance in front of the residence on the street, we believe they were aware of each other.”

Police are not releasing information about what, if any, weapon was used but they have said that there was no firearm involved.

The public is asked to stay away from the area as the Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate.
