Quiet month for new home construction in Lethbridge
LETHBRIDGE – New home construction has fallen off considerably in Lethbridge.
In its monthly report for October, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. (CMHC) says 13 new single-family homes were started in the city in October, down from 57 a year ago. That was offset slightly by an increase in new multi-family homes, but the total was still down by nearly two-thirds over last year, from 59 to 21 starts.
So far this year, there have been 501 housing starts in Lethbridge, down from 722 in 2015, a decrease of 31 per cent.
Housing starts in Red Deer are down 42 per cent so far, with 333 reported. Medicine Hat reports 141 starts, a decrease of 18 per cent. The Calgary area is down
