Hurricanes captain scores game winner to snap losing streak
EVERETT – Coming into a road game against the second best team in the Western Hockey League, while also in the midst of a five game losing skid, it was the Hurricanes captain who stepped up Saturday night (Nov. 19).
Tyler Wong scored his team leading 11th goal of the season at the 11:35 mark of the third period, giving the Canes a 2-1 lead and ultimately the win over the Everett Silvertips.
The Hurricanes opened the scoring, as Ryan Vandervlis picked up his first goal of the season with under a minute to play in the first. The Silvertips would respond a few minutes into the second period with a marker from Lucas Skrumeda.
From that point on Hurricanes goaltender Stuart Skinner was flawless, turning aside 31 shots total, 12 of which came in the third period.
