Jansen recounts harassment since floor-crossing decision

Nov 23, 2016 | 7:46 AM

EDMONTON – A Calgary MLA says harassment and abuse thinly hides violent intent and can scare off women seeking to make a contribution to public life.

Sandra Jansen made the comment Tuesday, Nov. 22 during a member statement in the legislature, where she recounted some of the foul language directed at her since crossing the floor to the NDP from the Tories last week.

Jansen said she had been labelled “dead meat,” a “dumb broad,” and told to “stay in the kitchen.”

She urged her colleagues to fight abuse directed toward all politicians because their daughters may be discouraged from entering public life. (The Canadian Press)
