LETHBRIDGE –  The Hurricanes Jordy Bellerive cracked a three-all tie against the Swift Current Broncos in the waning minutes of the third period, to give his team a 4-3 win on home ice Friday night.

Most of the penalty riddled game’s net action came in the first period.

The Canes’ Colton Kroeker opened the scoring on a power play just before the three minute mark, assisted by Brennan Menell and Kord Pankewicz.  Two minutes later, Ryley Lindgren put one through the pipes, to put the Canes up 2-0.

Just before the eight minute mark the Broncos Calvin Spencer and Canes Kord Pankewicz got into a fight and earned themselves each a five minute major

At the half way point in the first, the Broncos Tyler Steenbergen took advantage of a power play to put his team on the scoreboard and two a half minutes later, Egor Babcenko made it 3-1 for the Canes.

Thirty seconds before the end of the period the Broncos Ryan Graham redirected a point shot to add another goal and leave the Canes ahead 3-2.  Graham then recorded the only goal in the second period to tie the game.

The third period was marked by a run of penalties for interference, roughing and the Broncos had too many men on the ice. At the eight minute mark a scrum broke out leading to roughing penalties on both sides.  As well, the Broncos Max Lajoie and the Canes Igor Merezhko were each levied a 10 minute misconduct

The game resumed once the refs had all the penalties sorted out. The match ended with Bellerive’s game winner 90 seconds before the game ended.  Lethbridge outshot Swift Current 43 to 25 while the Broncos racked to 35 penalty minutes to the Broncos’ 27.

The Canes are third in the Central division with 23-points and sitting at 10-11-1-2 in the standings. The team travels to Calgary for Saturday night’s game.
