23 Days of Christmas campaign sets ambitious $25,000 goal for Meals on Wheels
LETHBRIDGE – The eighth annual Meals on Wheels “23 Days of Christmas” campaign is already off to a great start!
Select People Solutions, Teamworks Career Centre, Teamworks Training Institute, Cupper’s Coffee and Tea, Urban Grocer and Crazy Cakes have come together to raise $25,000 this holiday season. It’s also being used as a way to celebrate Teamworks Training’s 25th anniversary.
The money will be used to provide more than 2,000 meals throughout December to people in need, in coordination with the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization (LSCO) Meals on Wheels program.
Ryan Miller, owner and president of Teamworks Training, says over half of the month is already sponsored by a number of local businesses. But the focus now is filling up the rest of the 23 days and hitting that $25,000 goal.
Individuals and businesses can become a “head chef” by sponsoring a full day of meals for $1,000, or a “sous chef” by sponsoring a half day for $500.
Gift cards are also available to purchase at Cupper’s, Crazy Cakes and Urban Grocer that come with a $20 product certificate. Ten-dollars from each card goes directly to the meal campaign.
“[Meals on Wheels] would not have survived through these years without these contributions. To see that the organization is still around and vibrant, and that individuals are able to stay longer in their own homes… It just says a tremendous amount about the giving spirit of our community,” Miller noted.
Over the past seven years, the 23 Days of Christmas campaign has raised well over $125,000 for Meals on Wheels. The volunteer-based program has been operating in Lethbridge since 1970, providing 80 to 100 hot meals a day to members of the community who can’t provide for themselves.
