A by-the-numbers look at Statistics Canada’s latest study on youth employment

OTTAWA — A new study from Statistics Canada says young people have seen their job quality decline over the last four decades, even as the unemployment rate has remained virtually unchanged. Here are some highlights from the report:

12.4 per cent: Unemployment rate for workers age 15 to 24 in 1976. (2.3 times higher than for workers over 25)

14 per cent: Average youth unemployment rate in the OECD in 2015. (2.3 times higher than for workers over 25).

17.7: Percentage decline in the full-time employment rate for men aged 17 to 24 between 1976 and 2014
