New Brunswick government announces pilot project to begin using midwives
FREDERICTON — New Brunswick will soon allow midwives to work in the province’s health-care system.
Health Minister Victor Boudreau has announced that Fredericton has been chosen as the site for a midwifery pilot project that will be managed by the Horizon Health Network.
The announcement leaves just the Yukon, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island as the only jurisdictions in Canada where midwives are not regulated and funded.
A lead midwife will be hired to assist in the development of policies and procedures.
