SWIFT CURRENT –  The numbers are adding up for the Hurricanes as the team nailed a 5-4 OT win in Swift Current Saturday night.

In spite of being outshot 42-31, the Canes netted their fourth win of the week and improved their standings to 17-11-2-2 on the season.

The team came on strong, with Jordy Bellerive putting the Canes on the board within the first minute and half.  However, the Broncos Ryan Graham took advantage of a power play to tie the game 30 seconds later.

The Hurricanes pulled ahead half way through the frame on a shot from Tanner Nagel. Then, with just over two minutes remaining, Colton Kroeker found the back of the net and put the Canes ahead 3-1, assisted by Jordy Bellerive and Tyler Wong.

The Broncos continued to outshoot the Canes in the second period but, Ryan Gilchrist deflected all 13 shots. The high point of the period came as Brett Davis planted his first goal of the season, took his team up 4-1.

The Broncos hit the ice hungry in the third frame and pounded out three goals in succession. Aleksi Heponiemi planted the first goal 30 seconds in. Colby Sissons, with an assist from Heponiemi, hit the Canes net again at the half way point and just over two minutes later, the Broncos had the game tied 4-4.

The third period also saw half of the game’s penalties, including a five minute major against the Canes’ Tanner Nagel and the Broncos’ Calvin Spencer.

The game moved into a short-lived over time, as the Canes’ Brennan Menell scored the winner less than a minute in for a final score of 5-4.

The Canes are back home Sunday night for their fifth game of the week.  They host Kelowna at the early start time of 6:00-pm.
