Rexall locations in Fort Macleod, Blairmore to be sold
OTTAWA – More than two dozen small-town pharmacies across Canada are being put up for sale, as part of a larger business deal involving Rexall Health.
The Competition Bureau has reached a consent agreement with wholesaler McKesson Corp., which is buying Rexall from Katz Group Canada. Under the agreement, the bureau will allow the takeover and McKesson will sell 26 retail pharmacies. They include locations in Fort Macleod and Blairmore, as well as five other Alberta communities.
The bureau said it was concerned about the lessening or prevention of competition that might be caused by McKesson’s purchase of Rexall. As part of the consent agreement, the company will restrict certain sensitive information from being transmitted between its wholesale and retail businesses, to protect drugstore competitors.
McKesson supplies approximately 7,100 pharmacies from 13 distribution centres. Its purchase of the Rexall chain was first announced in March.
