CRANBROOK –  An 11-day Christmas break may have been too much for the Lethbridge Hurricanes, who were dealt a 6-4 loss by the Kootenay Ice on Tuesday night.  The outcome came despite the Hurricanes out-shooting the Ice 34-27.

The Canes entered the game sitting second in the Central Division at 18-12-3-2.  However, the Ice were first on the scoreboard just after the seven minute mark. A minute and a half later, Zak Zborosky had his team up 2-0.  The Canes Brett Davis had a goal for his team before the end of the period.

The second period saw a flurry of action as the Ice lobbed in four goals, including one just 28 seconds into the frame.  Although Zane Franklin brought the Canes up 3-2, the Ice had a trio of goals in succession to their team up 6-2.

Before the end of the second period, Tyler Wong added to the Canes goals, with his 22nd of the season and brought the score to 6-3. Wong also added the final goal in the third, to end the game at 6-4 for the Ice.

Notable in the game was a hat tick for Kootenay’s Zak Zborosky.

While Stuart Skinner started in net for the Canes, he allowed four goals on 13 shots. Ryan Gilchrist made 12 saves in relief, but took the loss.

The Canes’ record drops to 18-13-3-2 on the season and will host Kootenay on Wednesday (Dec 28) night.
