Jan 14, 2017 | 7:18 AM

LETHBRIDGE –   The new school year will bring about a new French Immersion program at Nicholas Sheran School for all French Immersion residing on the westside of Lethbridge.

Lethbridge School District No. 51 is also set to open a new elementary school on the westside of the city for the 2017/2018 school year, which brought about the need for new attendance boundaries for students.

Parents are encouraged to click HERE to view the District’s boundary map. Students who live 2.4 kilometres or further from Nicholas Sheran Community School will be eligible for transportation from any area on the westside to attend French Immersion at Nicholas Sheran.

Site visits to facilitate the transition for students will be arranged in the spring, and Nicholas Sheran Community School and Coalbanks Elementary School will be hosting open houses in April for parents, students and community members.

Monday, Jan. 16, the registration process will begin for Kindergarten students. Parents who have children currently registered in the EEP (Early Education Program) for the 2016/2017 school year will also have an opportunity to register those students for the 2017/2018 school year, starting Jan. 16. Registration for new EEP students will begin Feb. 6.

English program Kindergarten in-boundary students.

• Students who will be in the attendance boundaries of Coalbanks Elementary School will register at

Nicholas Sheran Community School.

• Students returning for a second year of EEP can also start registration on Jan. 16, at their designated locations.

Monday, Feb. 6, EEP new registrations will start for EEP programs throughout the District.

For students registering for the Spanish Bilingual program (Kindergarten and Grade 1) at Coalbanks Elementary School, the program will accept both in-boundary and out-of-boundary students. Registration is ongoing, but limited.

Only students who live within the Coalbanks Elementary School boundary, those who live beyond 2.4 kilometres away from the school, will qualify for bussing. Those living outside the boundary, who wish to have their students attend Coalbanks Elementary School for the Spanish Bilingual Program, will need to provide their own transportation to and from the school.

Interested parents can contact Deb Bosch-Friedrickson (403-380-5299) deb.bosch@lethsd.ab.ca) as soon as possible, due to capped enrollment numbers.
