Pedestrian collision leaves one man in critical condition

COALDALE – A Taber man is in critical condition following a pedestrian collision on Highway 3 Friday (Jan. 20) night.

Around 7:40 p.m., Coaldale RCMP and Lethbridge Fire/EMS were dispatched to the Sunnyside Road area, just east of Lethbridge. Through a brief investigation, police determined a pickup truck was heading east on Highway 3 and struck a 47-year old man from Taber, who was wearing dark clothes.

Police say the road was dry at the time, but dark with no artificial light. 

The injured victim was taken by ambulance to the Chinook Regional Hospital for assessment and treatment. His condition is described as critical, with injuries to the chest and head. Police confirmed in a media release that he will be flown by STARS to a Calgary hospital for further treatment. His family has been notified.

Lethbridge corridor victim services is assisting the driver of the pickup truck, who was not physically hurt in the collision but clearly upset.

Coaldale RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of an RCMP traffic reconstructionist.
