Alberta called out for lack of red tape reduction
ALBERTA – The provincial government is being scolded for what is described as a lack of effort in reducing red tape.
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business gives Alberta an F grade on its Red Tape report card, saying the government has not made red tape reduction a priority.
“Cutting red tape would inject a much needed boost in the economy, but instead of taking action onerous rules are piling up on this government’s watch,” Amber Ruddy of the CFIB said in a news release. The report card gives an A to British Columbia and Quebec, and B grades to Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, and the federal government.
CFIB says the first step for any government is to measure and report. It’s calling on all governments to introduce a “one-for-one” law that would remove one regulation for each new one introduced.
