UPDATE 6:10 a.m.: Westwind School Division has cancelled classes only for Mountain View, Spring Glen Elementary, and Spring Glen Junior High. While other schools are open, the division says some buses will not be running and it understands if some students cannot make it to class.

ALBERTA – Kids in some southwestern Alberta communities will be enjoying another snow day Tuesday (Feb. 7).

Livingstone Range School Division has cancelled classes for a second day in Crowsnest Pass, Lundbreck, and Pincher Creek, with buses not running. In addition, Holy Spirit Roman Catholic school division has once again closed St. Michael’s School in Pincher Creek for Tuesday.

Highway 3, meanwhile, has reopened between Coleman and Sparwood. Heavy snowfall on the weekend forced the closure of the highway across the British Columbia boundary. A stretch of the highway west of Fernie to Elko, B.C. which had also been shut down due to high avalanche risk has reopened as well.

A few more flurries were expected Tuesday, with temperatures remaining well below normal. An extreme cold warning was issued for areas north of Lethbridge including Claresholm and Vulcan, where the wind chill was expected to get close to -40.
