Youth respite worker facing sexual assault charges

Feb 28, 2017 | 5:53 PM

LETHBRIDGE – An unidentified youth respite worker has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation — according to Global News Lethbridge.

The charges from Coaldale RCMP are for alleged offences involving a young person with developmental disabilities.

It’s noted that the RCMP will be requesting a publication ban on both the accused and alleged victim, to protect the victim’s identity.

Global states that the accused had been working at a Palliser school until last week, and that parents were notified that the employee was terminated after the school learned of the charges.

RCMP say the investigation is in it’s early stages, but there is currently no evidence that any of the incidents occurred at the school. They added that more offences may have happened in other jurisdictions, involving additional victims with developmental disabilities.

The accused has been released from custody under a number of conditions, with his first court appearance set for March 1.
