Talks to turn Lethbridge’s water tower back to restaurant and lounge on-going

LETHBRIDGE – Talks with several parties, including one serious contender, are on-going for the restaurant space that sits atop Lethbridge’s iconic water tower.

Douglas Bergen, whose firm owns the tower, says it will likely go back to a restaurant and lounge format, rather than having two separate restaurants.

Bergen says his firm is presenting different concepts to the interested party, who is not from Lethbridge.

He also believes whoever takes over the space will be an independent operator, rather than a chain-type restaurant.

Rogue and Cut & Char closed their doors at the end of January after citing high operation costs and a slow economy.

The tower was built between 1957 and 1959, but after the city’s water treatment plant was completed, it was no longer necessary and stopped functioning as a water tower in 1999.

After a plea from the public, Douglas Bergen and Associates took over the tower and turned it into a restaurant and lounge, with a grand opening in 2004.
