Yard waste recycling stations now open in Lethbridge

Apr 1, 2017 | 9:25 AM

LETHBRIDGE – Just in time for those starting to clean up their yards,  the City of Lethbridge is opening its Yard Waste Recycling sites beginning today (April 1).

Anyone can drop off their recycling and compostable materials such as grass clippings, leaves, garden waste and branches up to 8 inches in diametre to any of the three locations.

The sites will be open seven days a week from 7am until 7pm.

Last year, the there were more than 37,000 visits to the three sites and more than 1,200 tonnes of organic materials diverted from landfills.

The city says branches are chipped on-site, while the green waste is taken to the Waste and Recycling Centre to be composted. The mulch and compost is then used for bedding and landscaping public spaces.

There are three yard waste sites:

  •  Bridge Drive West Recycling Station (junction of Bridge Dr. & University Dr. W)
  • North Side Recycling Station (junction of Stafford Dr. N & Scenic Dr. N)
  • South Side Recycling Station (28 Ave. S, next to the Lethbridge Soccer Complex)

Waste can also be taken to the Waste and Recycling centre year – round for composting, with no disposal fees for the first 250 kg on Saturdays.
