Allen Day Rider convicted of manslaughter in death of common-law spouse
FORT MACLEOD – Nearly two full years after the death of Brittany Medicine Crane, the man who killed her has been convicted of manslaughter.
The courtroom erupted in applause from Medicine Crane’s family, as the verdict was delivered to 30-year old Allen Day Rider, the victim’s common-law spouse.
The decision followed a week long trial that ended in March, examining the incident from May 21, 2015, in Standoff.
After taking just over a month to consider everything, Judge Eric Peterson stated that he believed the testimony from friends and family of Medicine Crane, who said Day Rider had abused his spouse in the past, and did so again in the early morning hours before her death.
