LETHBRIDGE –  Two young city men have brought home some golden hardware from the 2017 Western Canadian Gymnastics Championship.

The event was held in Brandon, Manitoba on April 28 and 29, with 234 gymnasts from Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon, and Northwest Territories competing.

Jackson Lowe, aged 14, won the individual all-around gold medal in the provincial-4 category with a personal best of 71.8 points.

In the team competition, Lowe and 16-year old Riley Johnson, were members of the Alberta provincial-4 team which captured the gold medal over British Columbia.

Lowe qualified for all six event finals and earned a medal in each of those finals, including gold on floor exercise, pommel horse, and vault, silver on still rings and parallel bars, and bronze on high bar.

Johnson qualified for two individual finals earning a bronze on rings and 6th place on vault.

The duo is coached by Jamie Ellacott, who took over the men’s competitive head coaching position at West Wind Gymnastics Club in January.  The club is taking registrations for spring mini sessions where you can try out gymnastic classes and for their summer day camp.
