Andrew Prokop to remain interim Mayor of Taber

May 10, 2017 | 1:45 PM

TABER – With just over five months left before the next municipal election, Taber’s interim Mayor Andrew Prokop will remain in that position.

Council had earlier considered the idea of a byelection, after former Mayor  Henk De Vlieger abruptly resigned his position April 24, because of his “desires to contribute to his time elsewhere, and challenges working with Administration.”

At its May 8 Regular Meeting, Council passed a resolution to appoint Prokop as Mayor, and held a swearing- in ceremony.

In order to fill the Deputy Mayor position left vacant by Prokop, all remaining councillors will fill the void on a rotating schedule.

De Vlieger had been Taber’s Mayor for four years, and initially expressed a desire to run for the position again, earlier this year.
