Plenty to do in Lethbridge on Canada Day

LETHBRIDGE – There will be no shortage of activities for anyone wanting to take part in Canada Day festivities in the city (July 1).
 
Starting at 9 am and running until noon, the Lethbridge Interfaith Food Bank will host a pancake breakfast at Galt Gardens. Cost is $3 for adults, and $2 for children.
 
Along with the breakfast, there will be a Show and Shine hosted by the Le Baron’s Club. Registration is $10. There will be a concession as well as several other attractions from 1-3 pm. All proceeds go to the Interfaith Food Bank.
 
Most of the activity will be going on at Henderson Lake beginning at 10 am with the Red Dress Run. It’s a 5km charity run/walk around the lake, beginning at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden. Registration fee is a donation to the food bank. Everyone participating is encouraged to wear red and white.
 
From noon-8 pm there will be a Kidzone, an Active Living Zone, and also a Food Hub with more thn 30 local and visiting vendors and food trucks.
 
At the east end of Henderson Lake Park, there will be free “Rabid Monster Truck rides.”
 
Beginning around 11 am, the Jim Pattison Main Family Stage will be hosted by MC’s from Country 95.5FM and B-93.3FM, and will feature a mix of local artists, singers, and dancers from across southern Alberta.
 
The Two Guys Pizza Youth stage near Nikka Yuko Garden, a host of DJ’s will play hits across a number music genres.
 
At Henderson Pool, the first 150 people get in FREE, from 1-7 pm.

And Nikka Yuko is also celebrating its own 50th anniversary, there will be a skate jam from noon -5 pm at the SLP Skate Park, and The Lethbridge Bulls take on the Yorkton Cardinals at Spitz Stadium.

Finally, the 20th Independent Field Battery will have two gun salutes, with the first taking place around 4 pm. A 105 millimetre howitzer will fire two blank rounds, marking the opening ceremonies at Henderson Lake.

Then at 11 pm, the howitzer will fire another blank round just before the start of the fireworks display. The public is also invited to meet the soldiers and to view the artillery piece.
