LETHBRIDGE – An 11-run eighth inning was the clincher for the Lethbridge Bulls.

The Bulls shellacked the Melville Millionaires 20-8 in Western Major Baseball League action Monday, July 3. Carter Witbeck, Dylan Borman, and Brock Frentzel all homered in the victory.

Melville, the league’s last place team, actually struck first, taking a 5-0 lead in the second inning. The turning point, though, was the fifth inning, during which the Bulls scored eight runs to make it 9-5.

After the Millionaires made it 9-8 in the top of the eighth, the Bulls blew the game wide open.

Starting pitcher Trace Francis was awarded the win, allowing five runs on nine hits in five innings, striking out seven.

The win was the third straight for the Bulls, improving their record to 17-9, tied with Okotoks for the division lead. The Bulls and Melville play again Tuesday, July 4, 7:05 p.m. at Spitz Stadium.
