Multiple fire bans now in effect

LETHBRIDGE – The City of Lethbridge, and both the MD and Town of Taber have issued fire bans, as temperatures climb across Alberta.

For Lethbridge, the ban is on all open fires in the Oldman River valley area.

There are exceptions for the stoves and fireplaces at the following locations:

  • John Martin Recreation Area
  • Rotary Picnic Shelter
  • Elks Community Compound
  • Picnic Shelter at Popson Park
  • Community Fire Pit at Bridgeview RV Resort
  • Fire pits at any private residential dwelling

For the MD and Town of Taber, they have noted that all fire permits are now invalid until the fire ban has been lifted.

Exceptions include:

  • Municipal landfills
  • Backyard fire pits
  • Fire pits in designated camping and recreational areas including MD of Taber Park, Enchant Campground, Hays Campground, Vauxhall Lions Campground
  • Burning barrels with a wire mesh screen no larger than 7mm or ¼ inch in size.

It was noted that the ban will be in effect at the Forks Recreation Area and Grassy Lake Campground.
