Evacuations and back-country restrictions increase in East Kootenays
CRANBROOK – The extreme fire hazard in the East Kootenays, coupled with changing weather conditions, continues to restrict back-country recreation, as well as forcing further evacuations. Those expecting to travel to the area need to be aware of the restrictions.
As of 10:33-pm Sunday night, the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) issued an Evacuation ORDER for the Whiteswan and Lussier areas.

Shifting winds and rapidly changing conditions are fueling the flames on the White River Complex Fires. Due to the rapidly changing conditions, the Regional District of East Kootenay has issued an evacuation ORDER for the Whiteswan Lake area. Smoke from the White River Complex Fires can be seen from across much of the East Kootenay.
