More areas of Waterton park reopen for day use
WATERTON LAKES NATIONAL PARK – As firefighters continue to hold the Kenow Fire and attack hot spots, more locations in the popular national park have reopened for day use.
As of Thursday, Sept. 28 people can once agin visit the Bison Overlook, Maskinonge Overlook, Knight’s Lake, Hay Barn road and day-use area, Driftwood Beach, Linnet Bay (day use area only), Prince of Wales hill, Emerald Bay (day use area), and the following trails: Wishbone, Kootenai Brown, Kootenai Brown Grave, Vimy, and Crypt Lake.
In addition, Upper, Middle, and Lower Waterton Lakes and the connecting river are once again available for recreational uses such as scuba diving, kayaking, or wind sailing — but no motorized watercraft.
Everything west of Upper Waterton Lake is still closed, and no camping is permitted. Within the Waterton village there are public washrooms, picnic areas and shelters, and Cameron Falls and Cameron Bay are accessible.
